When it comes to mini excavators, few can argue the fact of Kubota's superior products. Kubota mini excavators are almost like the status symbol of mini excavators. When you think of a mini hoe, you almost always think Kubota. Just do a search on Ebay for used Kubotas and you will see that their popularity out shines everyone else.
Kubota has been building mini excavators for quite some time now. Today they build two types of models. They have the regular series called the KX series with models ranging from a meager 1 ton to an 8 ton model. They also have the U series which is a zero swing model with model weights ranging from 1.7 ton to 5.5 ton. Horse power ranges from a small 10 horse to a robust 70 horse in the largest of the machines which is the KX080. All these mini excavators come equipt with rubber tracks but you can get iron tracks also as an option.
Kubota builds more than just equipment. They also build engines and their engines are found in many applications around the world. Their small water cooled engines are noted for being quiet, fuel effeciant, easy to service and most of all, long lasting. So it comes as no surprise that when you buy a Kubota you are also getting the Kubota engine powering it. Kubota equipment is one of the few on the market that has it's own engines. In fact you will find once you are shopping around even the Bobcat you may be looking at will have the Kubota engine powering it. This is a good quality item to have and to keep in mind when you are shoping for your next mini excavator. Another point of importance is the the Auto Idle feature on Kubota engines. After the control levers are in neutral for more than 4 seconds, the engine RPM automatically idles. Move any control lever and the engine RPM immediately returns.
The KX-121 is Kubotas best selling mini excavator. it comes with a 4 cylinder, 40 horse Kubota engine, weighs between 9-10,000 pounds depending on options, has an 11.5 foot digging depth and a bucket breakout force of 7100 ft, pounds. It's a lot of muscle packed into a chassis on two rubber tracks. The Kx-121 also comes with a 6 way angle blade. Blade can be angled right and left, and now, tilted as well. This new blade enables six different positions: neutral, float-up, left-end-up, right-end-up, leftend- forward and right-end-forward. This machine along with all the rest of the mini excavator line up comes with load sensing hydraulics also. Control valves automatically regulate and distribute the optimum amount of oil to each cylinder based on the weight of the load, resulting in perfectly matched speed, power, and cylinder timing.
It has only been the last few years that Kubota branched off into a larger excavator. The KX080 is their largest machine on the market today. It is powered by a 70 HP Kubota engine. The standard model has a 15 foot digging depth and a bucket breakout of over 14,000 ft pounds.
